There are many pieces that make us whole, so when I first came across Pieces of Me on Instagram, I really was intrigued by how they mix personality with wearable merchandise. Picking one trait that sums me up in a nutshell was tough actually, but I chose the Confident symbol.
The cuff’s description: “With a strong and bold center, confident people never waver on who they are.” Sold. That’s me. I’m a go getter, I’m terribly stubborn, and I’m very confident in listening to my intuition, because it’s never really failed me.
I used to not be very confident in myself, but when you finally grow into your own skin you realize that you’re capable and a lot stronger than you thought. In Los Angeles, I had to be confident enough to run an entire Department myself, whether it was Wardrobe Styling for International commercials or an Editorial Shoot on the fly, I did it well in a very male dominated industry. And I did it by myself, no assistants no nothing. Every shoot I’d be on, crew would yell “Where’s Wardrobe Dept?” You’re lookin’ at it.
And when I left LA last year to pursue Shoes and Sashimi full time, I was confident that I would slowly but surely make this venture succeed. And it has. It’s not easy by any means, but I’m sure thankful that I trusted my gut because there are so many things I have in store for this blog.
What’s your dominant trait? How do you stay empowered?
If you would like to wear your trait on your sleeve (or wrist) you can pick your own cuff from Pieces of Me here. Using “Lauren10” will save you 10% at checkout.
Pieces of Me
Most of the time, I’m in some sort of denim. So when I found this perfectly fitting dress from Vici, I was really happy that I could just throw it on and prance out the door. I chose this dress with Mexico in mind. @Twelfthknight and I booked a trip to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta in the Fall and I’m very excited to wear this dress for day excursions! Not to mention the beautiful photos I’ll be sharing with you guys.
Of course, I can’t wait til Mexico to wear it though. This dress is less than $60, cotton blend, and it’s lined! But what really sold me was the length and embroidered flowers. I’m 5’3 and it’s pretty hard to find a dress that is fit correctly in length without having to get it altered. I’m a fan and it looks great with either a sandal or sneaker.
Thanks for reading everyone, I wish you a great weekend!

Fall is my favorite season and it’s just around the corner, so I’m happily adding transition pieces into my closet such as this super soft “camel” jacket from Vici. I love their affordable pieces and this is just one of the many that I picked from their online store (2 stores in Walnut Creek and Newport Beach.)
In LA, I got away with wearing the “business casual” look all the time with shorts and a moto jacket and I’m happily wearing it now here in the Bay Area. My advice: elevate your basics with fun pieces like this and you’ll have a lot more range in your wardrobe that’ll take you from Summer to Fall without breaking the bank!
Thanks for reading everyone, I wish you a great week.

Shoes: M.Gemi Stellatos
You all know I love my M.Gemi shoes. I wear one of them on my Instagram feed at least once a week it seems. They’re one of my absolute favorite brands to wear (and work with) but overall they’re just beautifully crafted and so amazingly comfortable. I have literally walked miles in my Stellatos without a single complaint from my feet.
M.Gemi has become a part of my weekly wardrobe, I wear them so often and they’re definitely part of my lifestyle. From running around town for errands, to dressing up jeans for coffee and dinner, M.Gemi takes me everywhere. Which brings me to Goop. If you are a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow, then you know about her lifestyle site. I personally am not a fan of she herself, however I do like that Goop is a one stop shop type of deal that promotes quality, often times green, and trusted products that cover all lifestyle needs.
M.Gemi and Goop launches their capsule collection today and I wanted to share their new styles for you. There’s something for everyone, a sneaker, heel, flat, and sandal. I personally love the pointed toe flat.
As always, thank you for reading. If you have any questions regarding M.Gemi as a company or how the sizes fit, I’d be happy to help.

Hi everyone, hope you had a nice weekend. Let’s get this week started shall we? I’m diving into my Fold Over Clutch from Australian Designer Nikki Williams, which holds just enough essentials to get through the day. You’ve probably seen this clutch popping up all over my Instagram feed lately, and a few blog posts back (I’ve been toting this thing up and down the Bay Area, and often times people will stop and compliment.) The people have spoken, it’s a winner.
Sometimes it’s nice to not carry a shoulder bag around. I’m a minimalist, so this roomy clutch is pretty handy when all you need is a driver’s license, keys, and phone, plus a lipstick or what have you.

Plants are powerful. Now that I’ve tackled my hair woes, (see previous post) I’ve moved on to concour my temperamental skin with the help of Botanics. Since I have combination skin, I’m always fighting breakouts along my chin and T-zone. Over the years, (even with sunscreen every day) I’ve dealt with sensitivity and blotchiness that is hard to tame. With that being said, I’ve gone through many a dermatologist and many skin care products in my day, but nothing has been nearly as effective, gentle, and affordable as this line. Now at Target, they’re all under $10 and I’m happy to have found something that works that’s affordable.
I’ve been using Botanics now for 2 weeks, and I’m already seeing clearer, calmer skin. Hyper pigmentation has reduced significantly to where my face is one tone with very little redness. I’m even using just a bb cream, no foundation or cover up necessary anymore. So here’s what I do:
- Wash morning and night with the Shine Away Mattifying Mousse. Willowbark is naturally high in salicylic acid so it removes oil and clarifies skin
- Pat on the Shine Away Toner (or with cotton pad) to remove impurities and tighten pores
- Apply the Shine Away Day Cream with SPF 15 all over face. You don’t need much, it’s light weight and gentle and my skin is completely hydrated and not greasy.
- Twice a week (at night) I use the Shine Away Clay Mask to draw out all the gunk and impurities my skin may absorb. Leave on for about 10 minutes and your skin will feel extra clean before washing with cleanser.
- Twice a week (at night) I use the Invigorating Face Scrub that gently sloughs off dead skin. (Don’t rub too hard, I usually do this on the days I don’t use the mask.)
- 3-4 times a week (at night) I apply the Shine Away Gel Cream prior to moisturizing which acts to clarify and seal in all the work I just did. My skin actually feels tighter each time I use it!
And there you have my effective and affordable skincare routine using the #PowerofPlants. You can find Botanics and all of their many products at Target or with the links provided.

Let’s get personal shall we? Having gone through a lot shampoo bottles and brands over the years (mainly all from drugstores and the occasional splurge at Sephora) I think I’ve finally found something that actually works for my hair type, which is a little troublesome: Oily, sometimes itchy and flaky, thick, and colored. Why hasn’t Head and Shoulders, Pantene, or OGX done the trick? It’s because they’re not custom. They may try to treat one of the problems, but not all. Or they’re filled with junk and chemicals that aren’t good for you nor the water system.
Enter Function of Beauty. Fill out a fun and easy hair survey based on your needs via their website, pick a delicious scent (I chose Passion Fruit Hibiscus) and their chemists will mix a concoction up for you and pop it in the mail. What’s more is that I can’t stand all the junk such as Parabens and Phthalates, and Function of Beauty is free of all that. No GMO’s allowed.
Free shipping and $26 later, I shortly received 2 bottles of my new custom hair care with my name on the bottles. They’re just for me, myself, and my type of hair :D
I’ve been using my new shampoo and conditioner for about 3 weeks now and my hair seems softer, shinier (not to be mistaken for oily), and my scalp seems calmer and less irritated. Plus, every time I wash my color treated hair, I smell like passion fruit which I love.
Let me know if you decide to mix your own via Function of Beauty because I definitely want to hear your thoughts. You can save $5 when you click the link. Until then, wishing you all happy hair days from here on out :D
