Where to Stay in Palm Springs: The Monkey Tree Hotel

There’s something about the desert air that can reignite your spirits and calm your mind. So after itching to get out on the open road and away from city life for a few days, I hit the road with Mazda to get some client work shot and also to clear my head (planning a wedding reception has me going a bit crazy lately, more on that later.)

If you’re planning a girls getaway or a quiet weekend out in Palm Springs with your significant other, may I suggest this gem of a hotel that’s one of the quieter oasis’s out of the many hotels located in the desert. The Monkey Tree Hotel is a gorgeous Albert Frey property that has been a first choice stay from the likes of Old Hollywood i.e Lucile Ball, The Beatles (minus Paul), Kathryn Hepburn, and Marylin Monroe to name a few! I could see why they chose this quiet oasis, it was perfectly nestled conveniently near the downtown area of Palm Springs and Tramway.

Walking into the property, you’ll be greeted by The Floyds, the pool’s resident pink flamingo floaties. It’s almost like walking into a set of Mad Men, I half expected Don Draper to pop out somewhere. Every morning, breakfast is served. The owners take pride in serving local fresh brewed coffee and offer house-made sugar-free granola, yogurts, fresh fruit, and a wide selection of organic loose teas. This is the perfect way to fuel up for a day of hiking, touring the botanical gardens, biking around town, or just kickstarting your day for whatever you have in store.

I spent a lot of time at the pool because the weather wasn’t hot, it was near perfect. However, if you’re looking for a spa treatment and don’t want to drive anywhere, you can book a Swedish, deep tissue or reflexology appointment for an in-room experience.

Not too far away is the beautiful residential neighborhood of Palm Springs. This area is the prime real estate of Mid Century Modernism architecture at it’s finest and I was happy to get to explore with Mazda.

If you are looking to get away in California but are striving for a serene and relaxing atmosphere, I’d highly recommend booking a stay at The Monkey Tree Hotel over the party properties in the area. I had some of my best sleep in a long time and left feeling like a new human :)
