This weekend was a blur. If you watched on Stories, this past Saturday Trace and I went on a whirlwind cake tasting tour, pinning 3 LA bakeries against each other! With our reception coming up in May, each weekend has been pretty busy lately and this one was no exception. We hit up Milkbar on Melrose first to try their Confetti Cake and Strawberry Lemon. They were both good and tasted very much like nostalgia, but because I haven’t actually had Milkbar’s Cereal Milk Soft Serve before, that was a memorable little bite.
Next was Susie Cakes on La Brea which I have tried before. They were so kind, and Quantrelle even gave us the Birthday Cake and Raspberry Vanilla Cake slices on the house. Thank you Quantrelle! Third stop was an old favorite, Sweet Lady Jane on Melrose. They were made famous by their beautiful Princess Cake (a European yellow cake draped in marzipan and buttercream) and their Triple Berry Cake (which is light and full of berries, my personal favorite.) Lots of hard decisions to make, but we think we know what we’re going to go with…you’ll just have to stay tuned to see what we chose ;)
Because we were running around West Hollywood all day, I wanted to at least look somewhat pulled together for big errands. I’m a firm believer that a light blazer can instantly make any basic look professional and pulled together which is why I threw this one over my white tee and denim and ran out the door. I did size up for comfort which I do recommend. You wouldn’t want a fitted blazer to be running around all day in since comfort and function is the key here. Below is the one I’m wearing.
Now, not everyone likes the Dad Sneaker trend, but I personally do. I find them really comfortable for running around all day, however you still look just the right amount of trendy without over doing it. These Dolce Vita ones I wear weekly and get lots of compliments on. Originally I received these from Lulu’s however I did find them on Amazon in different colors and for a lower price (linked below.)
I’m still full off of cake, but the denim I love that has never failed me regardless of what type of errand or activity I’m doing is hands down Agolde. I own 4 pairs of their denim and will last a lifetime. If you were to invest in anything, I recommend investing in denim. I wore the “Palmer” style, but linked a very similar one below.
It’s warming up in LA and but the perfect light blazer is something I’d be wearing well through Spring. I hope you enjoyed this post and if you’re in LA and looking for a bakery for your next event or party, I highly recommend these three.
The Best Bakeries in LA:
Go for their Birthday Cakes, Compost Cookies, Crack Pie, and Cereal Milk
Their cakes are dense and is everything a cake should be. Loved their retro blue frosted Celebration Cake and in the past, loved the Old Fashioned 6 Layer Chocolate Cake (perfect for birthdays.)
On Melrose lives one of my personal favorites. Go for their breakfast but also to see their Princess Cake and Triple Berry Cake in person. They’re what put them on the map and do not disappoint.
