Dock of the Bay

Walking through SF’s Ferry Plaza one morning, I overheard one of the restaurant workers outside belting out Otis Redding’s classic and that song stuck with me all week. Spring feels like it’s arrived in the Bay Area and I’m fully welcoming it, so I grabbed a pastry and coffee at Blue Bottle and met Julia for a morning stroll along the water.

We have plans, let me tell ya. I think we’re still jazzed from our NY trip. She’s insanely motivated as a shooterΒ and we both want to help see each other’s goals through. Grateful for our working relationship that’s turning into friendship.

SF Spring weather usually requires a jacket, so this thrifted denim piece I got for $6 in Denver last year is something you’ll be seeing more of. By the way….I’ll be in Denver with @twelfthknight last week of this month, so come with me as I eat my way through and thrift some more :D

Spring is my favorite time of year in the Bay Area. You’ll be seeing a lot of new looks, bigger campaigns, new hair, and more travel. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Getting Personal #FunctionofBeauty

Let’s get personal shall we? Having gone through a lot shampoo bottles and brands over the years (mainly all from drugstores and the occasional splurge at Sephora) I think I’ve finally found something that actually works for my hair type, which is a little troublesome: Oily, sometimes itchy and flaky, thick, and colored. Why hasn’t Head and Shoulders, Pantene, or OGX done the trick? It’s because they’re not custom. They may try to treat one of the problems, but not all. Or they’re filled with junk and chemicals that aren’t good for you nor the water system.

Enter Function of Beauty. Fill out a fun and easy hair survey based on your needs via their website, pick a delicious scent (I chose Passion Fruit Hibiscus) and their chemists will mix a concoction up for you and pop it in the mail. What’s more is that I can’t stand all the junk such as Parabens and Phthalates, and Function of Beauty is free of all that. No GMO’s allowed.

Free shipping and $26 later, I shortly received 2 bottles of my new custom hair care with my name on the bottles. They’re just for me, myself, and my type of hair :D

I’ve been using my new shampoo and conditioner for about 3 weeks now and my hair seems softer, shinier (not to be mistaken for oily), and my scalp seems calmer and less irritated. Plus, every time I wash my color treated hair, I smell like passion fruit which I love.

Let me know if you decide to mix your own via Function of Beauty because I definitely want to hear your thoughts. You can save $5 when you click the link. Until then, wishing you all happy hair days from here on out :D

*Thank you to Function of Beauty for this post. All opinions are my own.*

That’s a Wrap on 2015

Last post of the year and I could very easily just talk about what I’m wearing here or how this could be a versatile NYE look…but I would prefer to recap what a ride 2015 has been and get a little deeper.

I wish you all a wonderful New Year and a huge thank you for being such a supportive community.

I have genuinely grown homesick for Los Angeles, a feeling I’ll never have for SF proper, however I do like the Bay Area and the things that are brewing here on this side of the East Bay. It is where I was born and raised after all.

So when I shut my door in Sherman Oaks and took my last stroll through Sawtelle Blvd and sipped my last Urth latte in Downtown for a while, it was a bittersweet closing; not just on the year but because I knew things were changing yet once again.

I quickly had to hone a new set of skills, all while maintaining my personal style and creative bent. Prior to all this, I didn’t know how it was possible to grab a foothold in the oversaturated Content Creator world, but somehow brands and small businesses found me and now I’m in this full time. It was honestly hard to get inspired because my pride may have been hurt a little at first, but it’s been working and there are bigger and better things coming that I’m excited to be working on. From food styling to product styling, I’m your girl.

Now with Instagram practically running itself and growing each day, collaborations in motion, small businesses wanting product shots, and clients seeking wardrobe updating… I think I’ve been quite busy! But I couldn’t do it all myself, that’s for sure.

So thank you to these special people for helping Shoes and Sashimi get underway during such a crucial trial period:

@Twelfthknight for being patient and helping me shoot throughout the year. Excited to see what new adventures bring us in 2016

Mom, for being even more patient and mentally invested in everything I do. It’s not fair that you’re often the casualty of my very short fuse sometimes, but I acknowledge it and appreciate you always being there
