NYFW Day 1

The Hudson Hotel

It’s been one hell of a trip here in NYC. NYFW has been exciting, intimidating, inspiring, and exhausting….but I wouldn’t have it any other way. With Storm Nico derailing all flights the day I was supposed to arrive plus a few cancellations, I was very well prepared to accept that I wasn’t going to be able to attend after all. And with the stroke of luck Friday morning, I somehow made it to SFO for my 8am flight. When I got there, Kelly (aka @birdieshoots) texted me to say that her flight was again canceled and would not be making it. I was rather devastated quite frankly. We were supposed to do this together. So now, it was all on me. I already missed two of my shows on Thursday, and now I would be scrambling to make up for lost time.

I arrived at JFK at 5:30pm, exhausted from all the stress prior, cold, and a little out of my comfort zone. My Uber promptly picked me up and we were off to The Hudson Hotel which would be home for the weekend. I met Christina (aka @classtige) for dinner at Momofuku and shortly after I passed out in my bed and slept like a log.

Taken before my hair appointment at Amika Style Blow, Lauren Listor (aka @laurelcreative) was able to squeeze me in for a shoot. She shoots everyone, any major blogger you follow, you bet she’s shot them. Thank you Lauren for such a fun morning. I love that she captured an iconic version of NYC for me, you have to get the yellow cabs in right?

Prior to seeing the shows for the day, I went to the Shopstyle event at Canoe Studios. I’m sure by now you saw all of that action on Instagram and Instastories. It was really fun and I saw some familiar faces from SF. I also got a monogrammed leather portfolio case from Gigi New York as a nice souvenir :)

My first show was for Jimmy Burner at the Stewart Hotel. Fun, urban, street style. Watch the Final walk here: Jimmy Burner

In the evening I attended the Francesca Liberatore Show at Skylight Clarkson. I geeked out when I saw Kelly Cutrone, Miss Alexander J, and Dorothy Wang all within 3 feet of me. It was a beautiful show to say the least and the energy that comes from seeing a live show like this is unreal.

Day 1 was simply getting my bearings. Day 2 and 3 are by far my most packed and most exciting, so I can’t wait to share with you those photos as they come :) I’m really grateful for the experience and I’m so glad I was able to pull this off so that I can share everything with you. Stay tuned.

Brand Spotlight: Clayton

Hi everyone. Not sure about you, but I’m so looking forward to cooler weather. For me, that means more sweaters, and light layers, but I want to have fun with them at the same time. Bodysuits are a way of doing that, which brings me to my favorite brand currently: Clayton.

Clayton’s affordable and easy to wear line are currently sold through my two favorite sites Revolve and Shopbop. I genuinely have been a fan of their jersey knits for a little while now, they’re the quintessential LA girl brand. So when they came out with all these bodysuits, I decided to try them out. Of course, the most flattering way to wear a one piece is with a high waist, so I opted to combine both trends together, and voile. Easy, effortless, and also proving that you don’t have to be built like a Kardashian to wear the trend…I think you guys will be seeing more of these looks from me. What do you think?

Bombs Away

Waking up one morning, I decided to mix all the current trends into one look: Blush, Velvet, and the Bomber. For most of my adult life, the jackets that I have and wear often are my go to never fail moto style jackets (view previous post.) What can I say, I like what I like. Now with Fall weather quickly washing over the Bay Area and the bomber jacket trend in full force, I felt like getting out of my rut and trying something new. This bomber from Missguided is actually in a UK 6 Petite (US 2 conversion) however…it fits me perfectly. It’s not too baggy, not too heavy, and it’s a great statement piece to throw over workout clothes or spruce up a monochrome look. Plus, it’s blush tone, and you know I can’t get enough blush in my life.

What do you guys think? Are into the current Fall trends or are you staying classic?

A Change in the Air

Hope everyone is enjoying their day off today, I didn’t realize that it was Labor Day weekend to be honest. I’ve been a little preoccupied with other things as of late and time is slipping faster than I’d like it to. Without getting in too deep, I will just say that there have been lots of changes this week, you wouldn’t be able to tell through social media though.

I personally feel a change in the air, and I’ve felt a bit heavy all week. As we march into Fall, I’d like to thank Nicole Vienna for prompting me to reflect on a hard week, because quality time is what I value most. And though I won’t have more minutes or hours with the one’s no longer here physically, I know that my time was well spent and cherished.

Thank you for taking the time to read and I wish you all a nice week

Pieces of Me

There are many pieces that make us whole, so when I first came across Pieces of Me on Instagram, I really was intrigued by how they mix personality with wearable merchandise. Picking one trait that sums me up in a nutshell was tough actually, but I chose the Confident symbol.

edits-41_1024x1024

The cuff’s description: “With a strong and bold center, confident people never waver on who they are.” Sold. That’s me. I’m a go getter, I’m terribly stubborn, and I’m very confident in listening to my intuition, because it’s never really failed me.

I used to not be very confident in myself, but when you finally grow into your own skin you realize that you’re capable and a lot stronger than you thought. In Los Angeles, I had to be confident enough to run an entire Department myself, whether it was Wardrobe Styling for International commercials or an Editorial Shoot on the fly, I did it well in a very male dominated industry. And I did it by myself, no assistants no nothing.  Every shoot I’d be on, crew would yell “Where’s Wardrobe Dept?” You’re lookin’ at it.

And when I left LA last year to pursue Shoes and Sashimi full time, I was confident that I would slowly but surely make this venture succeed. And it has. It’s not easy by any means, but I’m sure thankful that I trusted my gut because there are so many things I have in store for this blog.

What’s your dominant trait? How do you stay empowered?

If you would like to wear your trait on your sleeve (or wrist) you can pick your own cuff from Pieces of Me here. Using “Lauren10” will save you 10% at checkout.

Flower Ladder

Most of the time, I’m in some sort of denim. So when I found this perfectly fitting dress from Vici, I was really happy that I could just throw it on and prance out the door. I chose this dress with Mexico in mind. @Twelfthknight and I booked a trip to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta in the Fall and I’m very excited to wear this dress for day excursions! Not to mention the beautiful photos I’ll be sharing with you guys.

Of course, I can’t wait til Mexico to wear it though. This dress is less than $60, cotton blend, and it’s lined! But what really sold me was the length and embroidered flowers. I’m 5’3 and it’s pretty hard to find a dress that is fit correctly in length without having to get it altered. I’m a fan and it looks great with either a sandal or sneaker.

Thanks for reading everyone, I wish you a great weekend!

Fall is my favorite season and it’s just around the corner, so I’m happily adding transition pieces into my closet such as this super soft “camel” jacket from Vici. I love their affordable pieces and this is just one of the many that I picked from their online store (2 stores in Walnut Creek and Newport Beach.)

In LA, I got away with wearing the “business casual” look all the time with shorts and a moto jacket and I’m happily wearing it now here in the Bay Area. My advice: elevate your basics with fun pieces like this and you’ll have a lot more range in your wardrobe that’ll take you from Summer to Fall without breaking the bank!

Thanks for reading everyone, I wish you a great week.

Shoes: M.Gemi Stellatos

M.Gemi x Goop

You all know I love my M.Gemi shoes. I wear one of them on my Instagram feed at least once a week it seems. They’re one of my absolute favorite brands to wear (and work with) but overall they’re just beautifully crafted and so amazingly comfortable. I have literally walked miles in my Stellatos without a single complaint from my feet.

M.Gemi has become a part of my weekly wardrobe, I wear them so often and they’re definitely part of my lifestyle. From running around town for errands, to dressing up jeans for coffee and dinner, M.Gemi takes me everywhere. Which brings me to Goop. If you are a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow, then you know about her lifestyle site. I personally am not a fan of she herself, however I do like that Goop is a one stop shop type of deal that promotes quality, often times green, and trusted products that cover all lifestyle needs.

M.Gemi and Goop launches their capsule collection today and I wanted to share their new styles for you. There’s something for everyone, a sneaker, heel, flat, and sandal. I personally love the pointed toe flat.

As always, thank you for reading. If you have any questions regarding M.Gemi as a company or how the sizes fit, I’d be happy to help.

Happy Feet

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on switching up my layout on here, what do you guys think? Super busy week currently, Uncle Mikey and the fam bam have been in town so you’ll see my SF mini guide coming to the blog soon….it’s basically a revolving door here, but I’m still trying to stay on task and on schedule.

With such an active week, my feet (and mind) have been peddling nonstop and I have Rothy’s to thank for keeping my soles happy. Based in SF, Rothy’s is the first ever three dimensional, seamlessly knit line of fashion footwear for those living an active lifestyle. Made out of recycled plastic bottles, their flats are 100% eco friendly, down to the foam insoles and packaging. They’re even machine washable, which blew my mind. And, after the end of these flat’s life (which will last a long long time) I can recycle the pair with their partner Plus Foam :D

I’ve been wearing my flats all this week, up the inclines of SF while walking through the city with family visiting. I kid you not, 4 miles plus in these flats and my feet are not hurting one bit. Don’t believe me? Use my code “Lauren20” to get your own pair at $20 off and try them on for size.

*Thank you to Rothy’s for this post.

Coffee o’clock

Monday mornings call for an extra dose of coffee. Provender is one of my favorite coffee shops in Potrero Hill, serving Andytown roasters and a mean avocado toast. It seats about 3 inside this little space and a little bench outside that’s next to the quaintest flower shop, Bell and Trunk Flowers. For a tiny tiny space, it’s perfectly designed and hidden from all the hustle and bustle.

What gets me through the morning? A strong latte, my sunglasses/bag of choice, and my Nicole Vienna Mesh piece that keeps me on time and my wrist oh so shiny. Someone even complimented my watch inside Provender, the people love this watch as do I :D

Hope you enjoy this little set. What morning essentials can’t you live without?
